Myth: There is no way to save money on food and clothing.

Truth: There are always ways to save money. Many grocery stores (e. g., Food Lion, Superfresh) offer discount cards for customers to get extra savings (e. g., buy one get one free, or $1 off, etc..). Read local newspapers for weekly specials. Upon your first visit to these stores, go to the store office area and ask for the Discount Card Application form. Usually you will be able to receive one immediately for cash savings when doing your grocery shopping. For discounted clothing prices, find a Wal-Mart or other national chain or the factory outlets stores in your area.

Myth: The price indicated in the shop or on the item is the final price.

Truth: Sales tax in the USA is added on when you pay. Sales taxes vary from state to state and from region to region, all between 3% and 9 %. In Delaware there is no sales tax. In Maryland there is a 5% sales tax, however food purchases are exempt from the sales tax.

Myth: I can use all the electronic devices from home in the USA.

Truth: The US electrical system uses 110 volts. If you are bringing appliances from home, they use 220 volts. You will need to purchase a transformer and plug adapter.

Hint: Check Wal-Mart or Radio Shack or other electronics store to purchase a transformer and plug adapter. Myth: The USA is divided into 3 time zones.

Truth: The USA is divided into 4 time zones – Eastern, Central, Mountain, and Pacific. The difference between Central European Time (CET) and Eastern US zone is 6 hours, 7 hours for Central zone, 8 hours for Mountain zone and 9 hours for Pacific zone. The US keeps Daylight Savings Time by turning the clocks forward one hour in early April and turning them back in late October.
