Truths, Myths & Helpful Tips
Medical Care

Myth: Medical care is free or not expensive.

Truth: Medical Care in the USA is NOT free and will typically be expensive. Check the maximum coverage provided by your insurance company. Usually, you will have to pay for treatment and apply for the refund from the insurance company later on. Dental care is very expensive and most insurance companies do not cover it at all.

Hint: Be careful! You are usually not covered by your insurance plan in case of accidents or injury when under influence of drugs and alcohol! General hospitals are usually less expensive than other medical care centers. Usually, General Hospitals will treat you if it is an emergency and manage the insurance paper filing for you, so you may not have to pay money immediately upon treatment. Independent medical care facilities will request payment upon service in the form of cash or credit / debit card.

Myth: If I get injured at work, the employer pays all medical charges.

Truth: This is true. If you are injured at your place of work, your employer is responsible for all of your medical fees. If you should be injured during your work period, report it immediately to your supervisor so that they are aware of the injury and can then document this injury so you will be elibible for their insurance coverage.
