Myth: If I cash my paycheck at the bank which issued
it, it will be free of charge.
Truth: It will be free check cashing ONLY IF you have an account with
this bank. Most banks charge an extra fee for cashing
your paychecks if you do not have an account with them.
It is usually best advice to simply deposit the check into your own bank account. Establish a checking account with a US bank upon your arrival, typically a national bank which has broad office coverage in the US and in some instances overseas. Bank of America and BB&T Bank are good choices in Ocean City Maryland for example. You will be able to obtain a "debit card" from the bank to use when making purchases in local stores and for purchasesover the internet during your stay in the USA.
